Prerequisites:
For the understanding of the course's key contents, it is essential to have successfully passed the courses of: Architectural Design I and laboratory and Architectural Design II and laboratory. |
Target skills and knowledge:
The course has the following knowledge and skills expected: 1. Knowing how to recognize the different levels of completeness of the technical information that must accompany construction products 2. Knowing how to recognize and use technical language in technical documents according to pre-established requirements 3. To know the construction system and how it is articulated in the sub-systems of production, standards and services 4. Being able to analyze construction products that will be used permanently in buildings and other civil engineering works, in accordance with the requirements of Directive 89/106 and Regulation 305/11 5. To be able to perform a comparative evaluation of construction products of the same family 6. Being able to choose construction products that are adequate to ensure when done, that the work, if properly designed and constructed, meets the basic requirements 7. To know the phases in which the building process is articulated, as well as the operators and the role of each one in the process 8. Know the rules that govern the safe management of the construction site and the works completed 9. Know the principles behind the production and management of building information systems |
Examination methods:
During the course the following exercises are proposed: - Elaboration of the card of an assigned product (25%); - Information modeling and management of building information systems on assigned study case (BIM) (25%); - Elaboration of a metric estimate with precise definition of some chapter items on the assigned study case (20%). The assigned exercises must be completed, approved and evaluated before taking the oral part of the exam. The assessment of the knowledge and expected skills is carried out through the evaluation of the exercises proposed during the course and in the oral-written evaluation proposed at the end of the course and/or during the oral interview, of learning the contents of the lectures. The assessment of the student's preparation will then be based on the evaluation of the product data sheet (25%), on the evaluation of the BIM exercise (25%), on the evaluation of the exercise related to the estimative metric computation (20%) and on the evaluation of the learning of the theoretical contents, corresponding to the oral part (30%). The exercises and the oral part based on the weights attributed contribute to determining the final grade. |
Assessment criteria:
The assigned exercitations must be approved before the oral exam. The evaluation of the student's preparation will be founded on the evaluation of the assigned exercitations about the card of the product (30%), the BIM methodology (30%) and on the evaluation of the theoretical contents (40%). Each exercitation has its own weight and contributes towards the determination of the final vote. |
Course unit contents:
The course is articulated in three parts: a theory-formative part, an informative part regarding the knowledge of the house building products and an operational part regarding the production and management of building informative systems. The contents are articulated on the followings subjects: Technical information; The construction system; The building process; The building products; The European directive on the construction products and the construction products' regulation; The building process quality and the product's quality; Safety management of the construction site and the finished works. Production and management of the building informative systems (BIM). |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
The activities include classroom hours where the contents of the course are explained on computer support (powerpoint file). In parallel with the frontal activity, the exercise activity is organized in dedicated hours. They are sequentially assigned: the exercise of the product sheet, to be elaborated for groups of two students, on the basis of the UNI 9038/87 Standard; information modeling and management of building information systems on assigned case studies, for groups of 6-8 students; the exercise of estimative metric computation calculating of the cost of the works in relation to a specific case study, for groups of 6-8 students. All the exercises proposed and carried out by the student are subject to revision throughout the whole period of the course; they allow the student to gradually learn the objective competences of the same. |
