Prerequisites: Calculus
Target skills and knowledge: Basic knowledge of Hydaulics, introduction to the design of hydraulic works leading to the ability to understand and perform design of water supply systems and sewers. Building sewer appurtenances will also be addresses. Basic notions of urban planning as related to hydraulic infrastructure (land use/cover vs quantity and quality of runoff). General notions of management of water resources.
Examination methods: Written exam + Oral exam.
Assessment criteria: Written exam needs be passed (>18/30), Oral exam serves to discuss the written exam, and to sharpen the grade attribution, especially for honours.
Course unit contents: Basic physical quantities, units of measure, physical properties. Ideal fluids. Hydrostatics. One-dimensional theory in instrinsic coordinates: ideal fluid dynamics; applications of the basic theorems; unsteady flow problems. Uniform flow in pressure conduits. Steady flow in pressure conduits. Unsteady flow phenaoema in pressure systems. Open channel flow: uniform flow; gradually varied flow; unsteady flow. Water supply systems. Sewers.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal teaching. Traditional exercises developed in class.
