Prerequisites: The student will have the anatomical and physiological basis of the main organs and systems of animals and will learn the fundamentals of general pathology that are the basis of the pathogenic mechanisms of diseases of our animals.

Required foundation courses: Veterinary General Pathology
Target skills and knowledge: The goal of this course is the study of the aethiopathogenesis and the learning of a correct interpretation of signs and symptoms of the fundamental diseases, with possible surgical outcome, that can affect different organs and systems in small and large animal.
Examination methods: final oral examination
Assessment criteria: The student will be evaluated on the basis of the knowledge and the ability to perform a correct diagnosis.
Course unit contents: Pathological processes of tissues (infiltration, inflammation, abscess, fistula, phlegmon, ulcer ...); pathological processes of tissues: congenital ( ectopy, atresia) and acquired (stenosys, occlusions, collections, ectasia, paratopie , dislocations, hernias); pathologies from trauma (contusions, wounds, sovradistension, tears, burns, frostbite, shock, compression ...), scarring and wound healing disorders.

Etiopathogenesis and clinical symptoms of osteoarticular diseases of large and small animals: bone tissue (fractures, epiphyseal lesions); joints (arthrosis, arthritis, luxations); hereditary and congenital diseases (OCD, dysplasias, bone cysts, metabolic growth diseases) injuries and diseases of muscles, tendons and ligaments; horse foot diseases (laminitis and navicular syndrome).
Clinical examination in small and large animals (signalment, clinical history, general physical examination, special examination of specific region, use of diagnostic aid)
Special examination of the muscolockeletal system, evaluation of lamness in small animals and horses (visual examination at rest and during exercise), examination of the forelimbs and hindlimbs: flex test,hoof test, rx, ultrasonography, diagnostic anesthesia).
Etiopathogenesis and clinical symptoms of respiratory diseases of large and small animals: diseases of the nostrils; diseases of the larinx (laryngeal paralysis and collapse), diseases of the trachea (tracheal collapse) and thoracic wall.
Etiopathogenesis and clinical symptoms of diseases of the eye in small animals: hereditary, congenital, and acquired diseases
of the eye and adnexa; diseases of the cornea; diseases of the lens; glaucoma.
Etiopathogenesis of diseases of the urinary system in small animals: hydronefrosis; ectopic ureter; renal, ureteral, bladder, and uretral calculi; traumatic rupture of the bladder.
Etiopathogenesis of diseases of the digestive system in small animals: diseases of the oral cavity and oropharynx; diseases of the esophagus and stomach; gastric dilatation-volvulus; diseases of the small and large intestine; disease of the rectum and perineum.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course includes:
lectures = 60 hours

The course is completed with the activities' provided for the internship practical application that the student must perform in the first person (hands on) under the supervision of a teacher.
