Syllabus
Prerequisites: General Pathology and General Anatomical Pathology
Target skills and knowledge: On the basis of what learned in the general pathology and general anatomical pathology courses, the student should be able to recognize and describe, mainly at gross and histological level, morphological changes observable in tissues, organs and systems and, by the establishment of differential morphological diagnosis, he/she should be able to identify or indicate the possible/s cause/s of diseases due to different etiological agents.
Examination methods: The exam is a written short answer questions exam (no.5) associated with 4 images for which students have to give diagnosis and etiology or pathogenesis. Additionally, single tests on macroscopic images will be carried out during the course and will be evaluated as 1 point of the final exam score
Assessment criteria: Students will have to show knowledge of the pathological processes and ability to make a diagnosis on gross lesions and describe pathogenesis
Course unit contents: the course content deals with major degenerative, inflammatory and neoplastic disease processes of major organ systems
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lectures will be performed using powerpoint slides and interactive discussion on gross pathology images
Additional notes about suggested reading: it is suggested to work on the material used at lectures and on the following suggested books:
1. JF Zachary. Pathologic Basis of Veterinary Disease. 6th ed. Elsevier (general pathology and anatomical special pathology)
2. Jubb, Kennedy & Palmer's Pathology of Domestic Animals, 6th ed. Elsevier, (set di 3 volumi) (anatomical special pathology)
