Students should have reached an adequate knowledge of Anatomy, and General Pathology.

Target skills and knowledge:

The expected outcome of the course is to supply to students the adequate knowledge and the methodological principles needed to investigate the clinical signs and symptoms that cause the disorder in order to perform the diagnosis. The student must be able to record the history, to examine and elaborate on the clinical signs related main internal medicine diseases of small and large animals.
Practical activities are designed to acquire the proper execution of how to handle animals during the clinical examination, to perform general and particular objective examination of the individual apparatus (Inspection, Palpation, Percussion, Auscultation).
The students should be able to evaluate the main parameters of hematology and clinical biochemistry in the veterinary field. |

Oral and practical exam at the end of the course.
Office hours: Wednesday 09.00 - 11.00 by appointment. |
Assessment criteria:

Students will be assessed on the basis of their knowledge acquired of topics presented during theoretical lectures. |

Medical Semeiology
Theoretical lectures (3CFU):
-Semiological test scheme:
General Semeiology
Methodology of individual and collective clinical examination and diagnostic procedure.
- Identification of the patient.
- History: environmental, collective, individual, remote, proximate, physiological, pathological.
- Examinations (present state):
General Objective Exam
Particular Objective Exam:
- Digestive tract
- Respiratory system
- Cardiac and circolatory system
- Urinary system
- Tegumentary system
Practical sessions (1 CFU):
Practical training to handle the cattle, the horse and the dog during clinical examination.
Clinical Pathology
Theoretical lectures (1CFU):
1. Clinical diagnostic procedures in veterinary medicine
2. Hemochromocytometric test
3. Anaemia
4. Liver function tests
5. Gastrointestinal and pancreatic function tests
6. Renal function tests
7. Coagulation tests
8. Serum Enzymes in skeletal muscle diseases
9. Serum Lipid alterations tests
Practical sessions (1 CFU):
Laboratory tests interpretation, training on laboratory techniques and management of the samples and laboratory equipment. |
