Prerequisites: Knowledge the Portuguese language with a performance of at least B2 level, according to the Common European Framework of Languages.
Target skills and knowledge: The main objective to be pursued is to reach the mastery of the Portuguese language, at C1+ level, both in its European and Brazilian Standards, by performing and integrating the four skills of the Common European Framework of Languages.
Examination methods: The final (and unique) mark will result from the weighted average between:

1. the marks (written and oral) of the partial tests (continuous assessment) to be taken with Dr. J. Maximino, for those who have chosen the language practice activities of the European Standard (ES) primarily, or with Dr. B. Ferrini for those who have chosen the Brazilian Standard (BS), throughout the 2nd year of the Triennial course;
2. the mark of the theory written test (frontal module), to be taken with Professor Sandra Bagno.
Assessment criteria: The positive evaluation of the partial language practice tests is preparatory to the written test with Professor Sandra Bagno (see point B). Evaluation will be based on the following criteria:

A. during the language practice activities with Dr. J.Maximino (for those who choose the ES) and with Dr. B. Ferrini (for those who choose the BS) tests will be carried out (continuous assessments) . Their outcomes will affect the respective partial final evaluations. Only the students who attend the lectures regularly both of the frontal module (Professor Bagno) and the chosen language practice activities (held either by Dr. J.Maximino or by Dr. B. Ferrini) will be allowed to take ongoing tests;

B. the examinee will have to translate from Portuguese into Italian a passage of a text proposed in class as well as he/she will have to do one written test in order to verify the knowledge level acquired on contents covered during the course.
Course unit contents: Three integrated modules are schedued on the following thematic content "Translating to Italian «Raízes do Brasil» by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda":

- history of the Portuguese language: the Twentieth-Century Brazilian Portuguese
- Italian translation of the classic Brazilian «Raízes do Brasil» by Sérgio Buarque de Holanda
- notions of macrosyntaxes
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: In parallel to the frontal module lectures (Professor S. Bagno), there will be language practice activities, held by Dr. J. Maximino (ES) and Dr. B. Ferrini (BS), planned for the first and second semester.

Students of Portuguese mother tongue must take the exam in its entirety, although not required to attend the language practice activities.
Additional notes about suggested reading: During the lessons accurate indications will be given about the availability of study materials and, if not present in the library, they will be provided through the Moodle e-learning platform.
