Syllabus
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of Greek and Roman theatre in its essential characteristics (also from an archaeological standpoint). Assessment of the permanence and vitality of classical culture in modern times, in relation to cultural tourism.
Examination methods: oral exam
Assessment criteria: The students will be evaluated based on their ability to critically discuss the contents of the texts in relation to the theme chosen for the course.
Evaluation will also consider their ability to contextualize authors and texts, in relation to the historical period they belong to.
Course unit contents: Reading and critical analysis of Greek and Roman dramas in relation to the theme chosen for the course: the character of agamemnon between power and justice
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Supported by the reading of several fundamental texts, we will study both the technical and content-related aspects of Greek and Roman theatre, in order to establish an in-depth interpretive framework. Activities will also include the analysis of footage from modern stagings of the dramas, as an inquiry in the exegetic potential of the classics.
