Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge of the differential calculus in one and several variables, useful the knowledge of basic facts in linear algebra.
Target skills and knowledge: The student will study how to find explicit solutions to linear partial differential equations by using Fourier series. It will be requested a basic knowledge of the main results of existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on data. Where possible the student will learn a physical interpretation of the equations studied.
Examination methods: Written exam.
Assessment criteria: Awareness of the topics studied in the course: correctness in the solution of exercises, knowledge of the theoretical results, ability in discussing and present the solution to assigned problems.
Course unit contents: Fourier series and Fourier transform. Introduction to the theory of linear partial differential equations of second order. Functions of one complex variable and applications.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures in class with the use of a tablet.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Available lecture notes in pdf form of the lessons in a limited access web site and hand notes of several authors.
