Syllabus
Prerequisites: Fundamentals of mathematics and physics
Target skills and knowledge: Working principles and basic modeling methods for electric circuits, electrical machinery, and power distribution systems
Examination methods: Oral
-discussion on the course subjects on the basis of a question list published on moodle
-optional power point presentation on a subject choosen by the student (max. 12 slide; less questions will be asked)
Assessment criteria: - Max. 30 points on the questions
- Max. 10 points on the presentation (optional); marks graded on the basis of the originality and knowledge of the topic proposed by the student and coherence with course lectures
- Final mark (in thirtieths): sum of the previous
Course unit contents: - Fundamentals of electric circuits: voltage and current, 2-terminal elements, power, conventions, electric work, measuring instruments, Kirchhoff's laws, network equations
- Steady-state networks: series and parallel connections, resistive networks, superposition of effects, power balance, equivalent generators
- AC circuits: symbolic method, phasors, parameters of symbolic networks, AC powers, measuring instruments, symbolic network analysis, power balance
- Electrical systems: energy generation (traditional/renewable energy sources), energy transmission and distribution (three-phase systems, substations)
- Electrical machines: basic construction and working principles of transformer, basics of static energy conversion (DC/AC, AC/DC)
- Electrical installations: electrical hazard, protective devices, residential installation, photovoltaic plant (hints)
