Syllabus
Prerequisites: Fundamentals of mathematics and physics
Target skills and knowledge: Learning working principles and basic modeling methods for electric circuits, electrical machinery and power distribution systems
Examination methods: Written and oral exams
Assessment criteria: - Written exam (numerical exercises, theory questions)
- Oral exam (short interview)
Course unit contents: - Fundamentals of electric circuits: voltage and current, 2-terminal elements, power, conventions, electric work, measuring instruments, Kirchhoff's laws, network linear equations
- Steady-state networks: series and parallel connections, resistive networks, superposition of effects, power balance, equivalent generators
- AC circuits: symbolic method, phasors, parameters of symbolic networks, AC powers, measuring instruments, symbolic network analysis, power balance
- Three-phase systems: energy generation, transmission, and distribution, analysis of symmetric and balanced three-phase systems, three-phase powers, reactive power compensation
- Electrical machines: basic construction and working principles of most common machines (transformer, asynchronous and brushless motors), basics of static energy conversion (DC/AC, AC/DC)
- Electrical installations: safety codes, protections, low voltage installations
