Prerequisites:
Mathematics, chemistry and physics courses. |
Examination methods:
one test 60 minutes long; a technical report regarding a geological argument chosen by the student; evaluation of the geological sections, projections of structural and seismic data carried out during the course and improved at home. |
Assessment criteria:
The evaluation of the acquired knowledge will be done through written exercises (sections, projections, diagrams, measurements) regarding the different arguments of the course . These will be collected weekly and reviewed by the teacher. |
Course unit contents:
•Earth structure and geodynamics. Element of cartography, tectonics, geomorphology, stratimetry and field analysis. Analysis of geological maps at various scales and legends. Geological profiles. Characterization of the rocks and sediments (chemistry, mineralogy and physical properties). Genesis and evolution of the sediments. Classification of the faults. Elements of geomechanics (Q, RQD, RMR, GSI etc). Elements of geophysics and geophysical survey. Earthquakes. Focal mechanisms. Magnitude evaluation. Seismicity related morphostructures (liquefation, morphological steps, radon etc). Hazard maps, accelerometric maps. Microzonation. Normative about seismicity. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
Reading topographic and geological maps, drawing and interpretation of geological profiles, rock examination, field excursion to collect structural and geomechanic data, plot of structural and geomechanic data, visiting a seismic laboratory, analysis of data regarding landslide sites, analysis of reports of seismic survey. |
Additional notes about suggested reading:
Topographic maps, geologic maps, rock samples, structural and geomechanic data collected in the field, visit of a seismic laboratory, material regarding landslide sites, reports derived from seismic survey. |
