Syllabus
Prerequisites: To have already obtained credits concerning the following course units: MATHEMATICS
To have at least attended the course of: ECONOMICS AND MANAGEMENT OF AGRO-FOOD BUSINESS
Target skills and knowledge: The student will acquire the basic tools to understand and analyze of the markets of agricultural and food products. The course will explore the elements of the context and constraints that affect the activities of firms in the agri-food sector: the evolution of demand for food, EU policies, with particular reference to the quality, and the regulation of trade in WTO international.
Examination methods: The exam is conducted by means of a written test. There is no examination in progress.
Assessment criteria: The assessment will be based on testing of the level of understanding of the topics discussed as well as the ability to apply analytical tools provided.
Course unit contents: 1st credit: Introduction to the economics of markets, the theory of consumer behaviour.
2nd credit: Information, information asymmetries and extensions of the model of perfect competition.
3rd credit: The regulatory framework of the EU's policies for food safety, product differentiation and consumer information.
4th credit: The international trade, the WTO and the agreements on food trade.
5th credit: EU policies supporting supply development: agricultural policy, growth policy, innovation policy
6th credit: Focus on the institution producing or influencing the regulation of agrifood sector; theoretical justification of state intervention in a market economy
7th credit: microeconomic analysis of final markets: theoretical models, evidences and policy issues
8°th credit: Organization of the agrifood sector: distribution channels, intermediate markets, integration and de-integration along the supply chain
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course is conducted through lectures in the classroom during which are projected slides that are then made ​​available to the students. There is a forum for discussion of issues / problems related to the course.
