Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of early Medieval Archaeology and History in Europe
Target skills and knowledge: Ability to read and critically understand a research paper, how to study a church, how to develop a scientific research about an specific subject.
Examination methods: Practical research on a particular site and presentation of results through a ppt
Assessment criteria: Understanding of the subject and critical capacity
Course unit contents: 1. Archaeology of early medieval churches origins and recent developments
2. Architecture and liturgical arrangements
3. The creation of an ecclesiastic network in towns and countryside
4. Burials and churches
5. From theory to practice: completing a CARE form
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will include discussion on relevant research texts on the subject, lectures by international specialists, visits to different monuments and development of a research on a particular building.
