Syllabus
Prerequisites: A good knowledge of modern English is required; familiarity with literary English is also desirable.
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the main authors and texts of Middle English literature. Reading and analysis of a selection of texts in Middle English.
Examination methods: Oral exam, in English.
Assessment criteria: Assessment will be based on the candidate's competence in analysing and discussing the texts analysed in class and inserted in the Bibliography. The student shall also be able to take into acount critical interpretations of the texts and contexts on the basis of the critical literature suggested.
Course unit contents: Introduction to Middle English literature, with a selection of representative authors and texts. Geoffrey Chaucer: The Canterbury Tales. The Dream Visions.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures are given in English. Special attenion will be paid to text analysis.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The classes and the exam will be in English. Please consult my webpage, and my Moodle platform, for extra texts and critical studies.
