Prerequisites: -the basic knowledge of the psychic, cognitive and motor development of the normal child
Target skills and knowledge: The course is aimed at providing to future psychologists the knowledge and elements of infantile neuropsychiatry and pediatric neurology useful for a global approach to the child and his/her family.
The main objectives are: to know the main stages of normal psychomotor development of the child in the early years of life and its deviations with early signs of psychic and motor delay; to know and to make the semeiological description of seizures; to know the convulsive disease, epilepsy and the main non-epileptic paroxysmal manifestations in the evolutionary age; to know the neurological manifestations and the internistic problems of children with cerebral palsy; to know the main clinical manifestations and the diagnostic approach of various neurological pathologies (neuromuscular diseases caused by floppy infant, acute central nervous system conditions, acute ataxia conditions); to know the semeiology of the main disorders of the movement; to know autism and ADHD syndrome.
Examination methods: Written test (open answer questions)
Assessment criteria: - acquisition of the contents presented in frontal lesson;
- personal review of texts and articles provided by the teacher and/or acquired by the student.
Course unit contents: 1. normal child psychomotor development in early life
2. the child with psychomotor retardation
3. the physiological development of language
4. delay and disturbance of language
5. neonatal neurology (neonatal neurological examination, neonatal convulsions, floppy infant)
6. intellectual disability and major neurogenic syndromes
7. infant cerebral palsy
8. epileptic seizures and epilepsy
9. movement disorders
10. acute infections of the central nervous system
11. acute ataxia
12. pain in the child with neurological handicap
13. autism
14. hyperactivity deficiency syndrome (ADHD)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: -frontal lessons with slides and videos of clinical cases
-interaction with the students during the lessons
-presentation of clinical cases with video and request of comments from the student
-works in small groups
