Syllabus
Prerequisites: For an effective formative action, it is recommended to attend the course after having attended the courses of Pharmaceutical Technology.
Target skills and knowledge: The course provides the rational basis for medicinal compounding and drug manufacturing by procedures suitable both for the public pharmacy and for the hospital pharmacy and for the industry.
The students are engaged in individual practical activities concerning the preparation of different dosage forms, taking into particular account the GMP, stability and storage requirements, labeling and pricing.
The students can also learn the basis of pharmaceutical legislation of pharmacy activities and medicinal regulatory affairs.
Examination methods: The final test is focused to evaluate the knowledge acquired for the professional activity in a public pharmacy, in a hospital pharmacy or in an industry.
It consists of:
- a practical test concerning the formulation, the manufacturing, the pricing and the labeling of a medicinal compound. Technical texts are available for the practical test. No personal material is admitted.
The student is requested to write a report arguing the formulative and operative choices and describing manufacturing procedure.
The failure at the practical test can affect the admission to the oral test.
- an oral test concerning the topics.
Assessment criteria: The final test is focused to evaluate the knowledge acquired for the professional activity in a public pharmacy, in a hospital pharmacy or in an industry.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The teaching consists of lectures (32 hours) and individual practical exercises (45 hours)
Additional notes about suggested reading: The slides shown during the lectures, are the basic material for the effective learning of the subject.
