Prerequisites:

Basic knowledge of Greco – Roman Archaeology and Art history.
Deep interest on the study of the period between the third and the eighth century A.D. |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
The course will provide the critical tools and methodologies to study the Late Antique monuments (architecture, sculpture, decoration), across chronological - typological approach.
The student will reach full comprehension of Late Antique artefacts (included catalogation of findings) with correct terms and independent critical thinking. |
Examination methods:

Oral exam with discussion of the course topics.
The candidates have a free choice for the first subject they would like to present. |
Assessment criteria:

The student will demonstrate knowledge of the content of the course with full domain of terms and independent critical thinking. |
Course unit contents:

1. Late Antique. Conceptual and chronological definition.
2. Architecture, architectural sculpture, liturgical furnishings.
3. Floor mosaic decoration.
4. Excavations and research in the Late Antique Near East.
5. Musealization, exposure, cataloging of Late Antique finds.
6. Introduction to instrumentum domesticum.
7. Wrecks and Late Roman Nautical Archaeology. |

Lectures with power point and video, visits to monuments, conferences and seminars, exercises of study. |

During the lessons literature for each topic and photo anthology are provided by the Professor.
The files will be available on the Moodle platform.
The study of the texts is a full reading with particular attention to the topics discussed in the classroom.
