Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of digital technology (personal computers and the Internet). Basic skills in the areas of personal productivity and the main web services (email, blogs, social networks). English level B1.
Target skills and knowledge: Awareness of the cognitive dimension of new media and their expressions. Evaluation of the educational potential of new media in different educational paradigms: behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, connectivism.
Evaluation of the quality of tools and digital environments in education and training.
Examination methods: Written exam with open-ended questions and possible oral integration.
For students who attend the written exam, the evaluation is integrated with the assessment of the practical activities carried out during the course.
Assessment criteria: In written and oral examination, accordance between answers and questions, clarity and argumentative skills are assessed.
Activities assessment takes in account the active participation in the thematic forums and the production of digital resources that are consistent with the requirements.
Course unit contents: The course is structured into eight topics:
- Introduction to new media;
- Mind and medium: theoretical framework;
- Web: affordances and criticisms;
- Collective Intelligence;
- Digital environments and learning paradigms;
- Flipped classroom: active learning strategies;
- Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs);
- Serious games: play and learning.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The content is presented with video lessons, text and multimedia resources and actively addressed through participation in thematic forums and the production of digital educational resources.
