Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge acquired in previous years (especially: General Psychology, Developmental Psychology and Educational Psychology).
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the main theories in the psychological learning field. Knowledge of current legislation (normative standards) at national and international level regarding the diagnosis of learning disabilities.
Knowledge of the main assessment tests.
Examination methods: The exam includes a written test with open questions.
Course unit contents: The aim of the course is to provide theoretical, conceptual and methodological knowledge for the identification and the assessment of difficulties and disabilities in learning field.
The first part of the course introduces the main theories regarding to the acquiring of reading, writing and mathematical skills (fundamentals of learning and leading models of DSA). The current legislation at the national level will be presented together with the major international diagnostic manuals.
In the second part of the course, special attention will be given to the diagnostic process; the main assessment batteries will be presented.
Finally, applications in clinical and educational field will be addressed and new research perspective will be presented (epigenetic, neuroplasticity and warm cognition).
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: During lesson the points above will be treated. The active intervention of the students will not only permitted but welcomed and encouraged as agreed during the early hours of lessons.
Additional notes about suggested reading: During the first days of the course will be given detailed indications of the chapters for the final exam.

For attending students: the reference texts will be integrated with scientific articles indicated from time to time in class.
