Syllabus
Prerequisites: To have passed the exam of developmental psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: At the end of the course students should know about:1) research designs used in developmental research; 2) contructing a questionnaire and an interview schedule; 3) adjusting interview to children's characteristics; 4) costructing an observational schedule; 5) coding verbal and observational data; 6) writing a research report
Examination methods: Exams are written, with open ended questions. Lists of questions will be available in the course site
Assessment criteria: Answers' evaluation is based on their correctness and completedness.
Course unit contents: The scientific approach
Developmental research.
Variables and measures
Construct validity
Developmental designs (cross-sectional, longitudinal, microgenetic)
Designs aimed to identifying or testing causal relations (experimental, quasi-experimental, correlational).
Internal and external validity.
Single-Subject Designs.
Facoorial designs
Verbal methods: questionnaires, interviews, clinical interviews.
Interviewing children.
Observational methods.
Coding verbal and observational data.
Writing a research report.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course is taught via lectures and exercises,including those presented in McBurney and White handbook and others regarding analyses and coding of interviews' trascripts.
