Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge acquired in the courses of General Psychology and Developmental Psychology.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to provide students with basic knowledge about the main theoretical frameworks and topics related to learning in the school context. Cognitive, metacognitive and motivational aspects will be examined. Aspects of learning and development with digital media will also be presented and discussed.
Examination methods: The exam consists of 6 (six) open-ended questions (no space constrains) to be answered in 2 (two) hours.

IMPORTANT: ERASMUS students can study a program in English - to be agreed with the Professor - and take the examination in English.
Assessment criteria: Answers to the six questions are evaluated on the basis of the
1) accuracy of content comprehension;
2) clarity, coherence and completeness of arguments.
Course unit contents: The topics of the course are the following:
- school learning according to the main theoretical and empirical approaches;
- intelligence and cognitive ability;
- basic issues of motivation to school learning;
- metacognition;
- reading and writing; text comprehension and production;
- study method
- effects of digital media on cognitive processes;
- effects of digital media on identity processes;
- effects of digital media on relational aspects;
- digital media and academic learning.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Students' active participation in classes is strongly encouraged. Discussions on critical issues will be included, as well as on questions related to school and instruction which appear on the press.

Two seminars will be led by two collaborators. Another seminar will be held by a professional psychologist who works in schools.

A film shot in the school environment will be watched and discussed.
