Syllabus
Prerequisites: Normal knowledge of the History of Philosophy and the History of Scientific Thought.
Target skills and knowledge: Knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the theory of knowledge and of emotions in modern and contemporary philosophy; capacity for critical analysis; methodological maturity which enables the student to use his own competence in an autonomous way.
Examination methods: Final assessment will be conducted as a written exam.
Assessment criteria: Ability to argue; autonomous skills in the interpretation of texts.
Course unit contents: The firs part of the course covers the theoretical assumptions of the phenomenological theory of emotions, such as specific modes of experience. In particular, to be presented and discussed: the relation between the rationality of emotions and cognitive theory; the distinction between sensitive feeling, emotional reaction and intentional feelings; the relation between consciousness and emotions.
The second part of the course will focuses on Michel Henry’s phenomenology. The aim will be to introduce the fundamentals of « material phenomenology » and its theory of life as subjective force and affectivity.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will be held in 42 hours of frontal lessons; the topics indicated in the program will be presented and discussed.
