Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in Philosophy, History and Psychology
Target skills and knowledge: Training in Cultural Anthropology, in order to develop interpretative skills about globalisation, cultural diversity, migrations, identity, multiculturalism and intercultural relations.

Contestual analysis. Criticism of cultural schemes. Acknowledgement of cultural diversities Development of intercultural skills, capability to face problems related with cultural differences in the local/global context. Principles of anthropological methodology and ethnographical interview.
Examination methods: Oral exam (discussion on textbooks) or examination paper (theme questions)
Assessment criteria: It will be evaluated the ability of perusal and interpretation of the textbooks; grasp, reflectivity and personal working out of the concepts
Course unit contents: Cultural Anthropology can be viewed as a repository of knowledge and methodological skills, to implement the interpretation of contemporary world and reassess cultural differences. The main theme of the course is the ratio between universality and difference, and diversity as dialectic solution. Anthropological is essentially a meta-descriptive view and imply the real presence of the scholar in the research field. Ethnography is an acknowledged methodology for many fields in the sociological context. Anthropological method is, in its origin, interdisciplinary.
The course provides investigations in kinship, family and rites of passage. Particular regard will be done to cultural processes, identity, diasporas and metissage. Through criticism of the concepts of race and ethnicity. Field research experiences of the teacher and methodology of ethnographic interview will be presented
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures, classes and workshops, with analysis of ethnographical texts and films.
Personages and scholars will be invited to participate to lectures.
Additional notes about suggested reading: It is advisable to begin with the study of the manual and then move to the study of the volumes that act as a monograph.
