Syllabus
Prerequisites: Circuit Theory, Physics 2
Target skills and knowledge: Basic and applied knowledge of semiconductor devices and fundamental analog circuits (rectifiers, amplifiers, operational amplifiers). Analysis and design capabilities for simple analog electronic circuits (single stage amplifiers, operational amplifier circuits).
Examination methods: Web based examination followed by, if passed, oral examination.
Assessment criteria: The final note depends on the knowledge level of the theoretical contents of the course as well as on the capability to apply the presented methods and the techniques to practical problems.
Course unit contents: Fundamental electronic device physics: diodes and transistors.
Diode applications. Single transistor amplifiers: bias networks and small signal analysis. Multiple stage amplifiers, differential amplifiers. Operational amplifiers: inverting and non-inverting configuration, Miller integrator, basic filter structures. Non ideal characteristics of the operational amplifiers: input and output impedances, offset voltage, offset and bias currents, slew-rate limitations, limited bandwidth. Application examples of the operational amplifiers.
