Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students need kowledge and skills acquired in following courses: "Principles and foundations of social services" and "Welfare, culture and society"
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to facilitate the acquisition of professional identity, using a methodological approach and the tools of social work.
The course aims to develop skills in managing the helping process and in the use of the main tools of professional social work.

At the end of the course it is expected that the student has acquired the following learning and is able to:
- think analytically over the professional role;
- understand the basic theoretical and methodological approach in the practice of social work;
- understand the stages of the helping process;
- develop a reflexive approach aimed at managing the helping process with methodological correctness;
- understand the main professional tools and adopt them in a reflexive attitude .
Examination methods: Written examination
Assessment criteria: The final grade will be based on a critical understanding of the contents of the course, and on the ability to apply them in an autonomous and aware way.
Course unit contents: - The social work: space, time, roles, tasks.
- The role of professional social worker.
- Methods, techniques and tools in social worker.
- The helping relationship: purposes and characteristics.
- The helping process in the construction of both individual and collective project.
- Deepen the use of some professional tools of social worker (listening techniques, the social work interview, home visit, meeting and teamwork)
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures and discussion.
This teaching methodology will allow students to learn and to experience a critical discussion with the teacher and group discussion.
