Syllabus
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to provide the following competences:
- basic notions of English and Italian phonetics and phonology
- phonetic transcription
- english pronunciation
- acoustic analysis
Assessment criteria: The final grade will be based on a final test and a final experimental paper that the students can work on in groups
Course unit contents: The course introduces students to the concepts, terminology and tools needed for an understanding of English pronounciation and the differences between the phonetic-phonological systems of Italian and English. It explains the basic mechanisms for sound production and introduces students to speech acoustics and speech perception.
