Syllabus
Prerequisites: A satisfactory knowledge of modern history
Target skills and knowledge: Students shall acquire the capability of differentiating among the most typical historical sources. Students shall become familiar with sources vital to any historical research.
Examination methods: The final is to be taken orally and it will be dealing with one or more historical sources.
Assessment criteria: Students shall be evaluated on the basis of their understanding of the course major topics and on their capability of using them in a given case.
Course unit contents: A rich variety of primary sources shall be analyzed. Public and private sources shall be discussed in their major features. Judicial, fiscal, diplomatic, decrees, narratives and those on civil and religious life sources are to scrutinized.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: There will be introductory frontal lessons, some seminars held by experts and practical activities on the sources. In such a way, students are expected to be able to handle critically all more relevant historical sources.
