Syllabus
Prerequisites: Course attendance requires basic knowledge in clinical psychology, psychopathology (and diagnostic classifications, in particular DSM-5), clinical psychophysiology, psychometrics, methodology of clinical research and interventions evaluation.
Target skills and knowledge: The course provides the theoretical, conceptual, methodological, and technical-applicative competencies necessary to: identify the most appropriate assessment techniques (clinical interview, structured interviews, questionnaires) taking into account the peculiarities of both patients and clinical settings; conduct a psychodiagnostic assessment; scoring and interpretation of questionnaires’ results, elaboration and draft of a psychodiagnostic report.
Examination methods: The exam consists in a written test.
The test comprises two sections. The first section is made up of completion questions regarding the course topics. In the second section, some clinical information, as well as data pertaining the anamnesis, scores on the CBA2.0, MMPI-2-RF, MCMI-III or other questionnaires (among those presented during the course) are provided. Students are required to draft a psychodiagnostic report, comprising the formulation of a diagnostic hypothesis and the identification of issues deserving further investigation by means of clinical interview or more specific questionnaires.
Assessment criteria: Students are evaluated not only through completion questions, but also through the draft of an adequate, valid, and effective psychodiagnostic report comprising the formulation of a diagnostic hypothesis and the identification of topics and questionnaires for further in-depth investigation. Both the precision and the ability to justify clinical decisions by means of appropriate evidence are valued.
Course unit contents: Clinical assessment instruments and psychodiagnostic strategies.
Psychological anamnesis, structured interviews, multidimensional and specific questionnaires, psychophysiological assessment and observational techniques.
Psychodiagnostic assessment, case formulation, implementation and evaluation of psychological and psychotherapeutic treatments.
Review of the questionnaires mostly used in clinical psychology, in particular:
- Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory - new version MMPI-2-RF.
-Batteria CBA Cognitive Behavioural Assessment, 2.0 - Scale Primarie e Secondarie (CBA-2.0).
- Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-III (MCMI-III).
- Outcome evaluation and the CBA-VE-Valutazione degli esiti.
- Psychodiagnostic assessment pertaining specific areas or periods of life (Schizophrenia, Eating Disorders, psychopathology in the elderly) and discussion of clinical cases.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: General descriptions of each topic, corroborated with examples, are provided during frontal lessons. Students, through the consultation of recommended readings, Test Library tools, and possible training activities, individually conduct further in-depth analyses of such topics. Furthermore, some exercise consisting in the presentation and drafting of a psychodiagnostic report are presented.
Additional notes about suggested reading: Frontal lessons are supported by practical lessons. The attendance of the Test Library and the consultation of questionnaires is recommended to all students, in particular to those unable to attend lessons regularly.
