Syllabus
Prerequisites: Basic knowledge of developmental psychology
Target skills and knowledge: Basic knowledge of the intellectual disabilities. Specifically about the following syndromes: Down, Williams, fragile X, Prader-Willi, Angelman, Rett, Cornelia De Lange, 5p- etc.
Examination methods: Written exams with 4 open questions. Time available: 90 minutes.
Assessment criteria: The exam will test the following aspects:
knowledge of the main topics
use of an appropriate vocabulary
syntesis ability,
appropriate description of studies (topic, hypothesis, methods, participants, results, discussion)
Course unit contents: 1 Attention, memory, intelligence, thinking, language, in individuals with intellectual disability and borderline intellectual functioning
2 Social and emotional development, personality, motivation in individuals with intellectual disabilities or with borderline intellectual functioning.
3 Autism Spectrum disorders.
4Down syndrome: psychological development
5 Genetic syndrome that cause intellectual disability or Borderline intellectual functioning
6 Case analysis
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Theoretical lessons and discussion on videos.
Additional notes about suggested reading: For the exam the student has to study three compulsory books and one at his/her choice. Moreover the study of a paper is required.
