Prerequisites: Suitable knowledge of thermodynamics and general chemistry are required
Target skills and knowledge: This course is an introduction to modern inorganic chemistry. Topics include principles of structure, bonding, and chemical reactivity with application to compounds of the main group and transition elements, including organometallic chemistry.
Examination methods: Oral examination or written periodical verification.
Assessment criteria: Knowledge of developed topics and skilfulness in application of treated methodologies will be evaluated.
Course unit contents: The solid state
Crystal and amorphous solids. Crystal structures. Classification of crystal lattice.
Ionic compounds.Lattice energy and thermal stability.
Covalent character in ionic bond. Covalent and metallic solids.

s- and p-block elements.
Properties of group, oxidation states, extraction of elements.
Synthesys and reactivity of most common compounds: halides, oxides, hydrides and metallorganics.

d-block elements
General properties. Crystal field theory. Effeccts of splitting o d orbitals on geometrical, magnetic and thermodynamic properties. Spectrochemical series.
Molecular orbital theory: octahedral complexes. Sigma ligands.
pigreca ligands. Model molecules: carbon monoxide, phosphines, olefines, cyanides.
Difference between the first row and the other two rows. Oxidation states and stereochemistry.
Synthesis and reactivity of most common compounds. Some catalytic homogeneous system.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Frontal lectures and laboratory praticals.
