Syllabus
Prerequisites: Attending students must be available to the teamwork and must be able to use a camera.
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide an introductory overview on the anthropological studies of cultures. Fundamental themes are: relationship between the main anthropological theories and the cultural systems, entities acting cultures (individual, group, society), culture, symbol, meanings, cultural communication, contemporary anthropology,funeral systems.
Examination methods: Written examination with open questions.
Assessment criteria: will evaluate the understanding and knowledge of the books provided for the examination
Course unit contents: -Anthropological point of view- Agency and Culture- Analysis of the development of hegemonic structures- Symbols, meanings, cultures;- Development of the anthropological studies- Cultural communication-Identity and Alterity- Interethnicity and multiculturalism- Cultural negotiation- Funeral systems.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: -Lectures, multimidia presentations, film sequences, interaction with students.
Additional notes about suggested reading: -For attending students the procedures of examination are different. Attending students will present a photographic essay by replacing a part of the exame.
