Syllabus
Prerequisites: Fundamentals of mathematics and physics
Target skills and knowledge: Working principles and basic modeling methods for electric circuits, electrical machinery, and power distribution systems.
Examination methods: Written and oral exams
Assessment criteria: - Written exam: 3 exercises (time 45 min) + 3 open questions (time 45 min)
- Oral exam: slide presentation of a topic chosen by the student (15 min)

Open questions will be taken from a list published at the end of the course.
Course unit contents: - Fundamentals of electric circuits: voltage and current, 2-terminal elements, power, conventions, electric work, measuring instruments, Kirchhoff's laws, network equations.
- Steady-state networks: series and parallel connections, resistive networks, superposition of effects, power balance, equivalent generators.
- AC circuits: symbolic method, phasors, parameters of symbolic networks, AC powers, measuring instruments, symbolic network analysis, power balance.
- Electrical systems: energy generation (traditional/renewable energy sources), energy transmission and distribution (three-phase systems, substations).
- Electrical machines: basic construction and working principles of transformer, basics of static energy conversion (DC/AC, AC/DC).
- Electrical installations: electrical hazard, protective devices, residential installation, photovoltaic plant (hints).
