Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students should have taken at least one developmental psychology course. Students should also have a good knowledge of english, as they will be required to read scientific articles published in english.
Target skills and knowledge: During this course we will examine how biological and social factors influence the development of social adjustment problems, and how the development of these problems can be modified through prevention programs. Particular attention will be given to the evaluation of efficacy and possible iatrogentic effects of various prevention programs.
Examination methods: Exams and Grading:
Attending Students:
25% - group presentazione of article (“Defense”)
25% - group presentazione of article (“Critique”)
25% - group presentazione of prevention program
25% - written exam

Non-Attending Students (see the prof. to agree on the research article that will be discussed during the oral integration):
25% - 10 page paper discussing the Moffitt article
25% - oral discussion of selected research article
50% - written exam

Course unit contents: Content:
I: Theory of developmental problems among youth.
II: Pharmacological interventions.
III: Interventions with Parents.
IV: Motivational Interviewing.
V: Iatrogenic Effects.
VI: Publicity campaigns.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Lectures focus on theories and empirical research. Students are encouraged to participate during lectures with questions and discussion. In addition to lectures, approximately 10 hours will be dedicated to discussing research articles presented by students.
