Prerequisites: It is useful to have a general knowledge about human development, typical and atypical, in its various aspects - cognition, personality, living environment (family, school, etc.); knowledge about the most important aspects of clinical psychology, with specific reference to parenting; a good basic understanding of testing and psychological assessment
Target skills and knowledge: The main purpose of this course is the acquisition of a theoretical apparatus, techniques and tools that are the basis for the pediatric psychologist promoting cooperation with the professionals involved in child and his family health care.
Examination methods: The exam is written with three open questions; available time one hour and a half
Assessment criteria: The main evaluation criterion is the exhaustivity: the questions are open and do not have space limitations, to give way to the student to demonstrate the completeness of his preparation on the topics studied. For every topic, completeness of information will be considered with respect to theoretical bases and possible applications in the field of health psychology
Course unit contents: The course will address the most important issues in the field of child's health psychology, outlining the main concepts closely interdependent with medicine, such as illness, wellness, coping skills, quality of life, stress, pain, reactivity, adaptability. All these constructs will be illustrated with reference to clinical methodology and exposing research data of ongoing studies. A significant portion of the course will be devoted to pediatric psycho-socio-oncology, as examples of the potential and application of this discipline. Students could study in depth some of the course topics through the lab "Valutazione del dolore pediatrico e interventi".
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The topics will be covered through lectures and discussion of the material presented, with research and clinical examples, videos and practical exercises.
Students' participation is hoped and encouraged.
