Prerequisites: The course requires fundamental knowledge about the school system and the pedagogical and didactic theories applied in basic education. Basic skills are also required in the field of educational planning, teaching and curriculum developing.
Target skills and knowledge: The course aims to build knowledge, skills and expertise to the design and organization of evaluation processes in the school context. Specifically, at the end of the course, the student will be able:
● To know the main evaluation models related to students’ learning, to teaching activity, to the school and the education systems;
● To know and apply assessment methodologies and technical skills in the subjective, inter subjective and objective dimensions;
● To arrange appropriate interpretative frameworks to realize evaluation models consistent and effective for didactic decisions in relation to the objectives, to the processes and to the expected outcomes in the activities of teaching and learning.
Examination methods: The assessment of the learning outcomes will be achieved through a written test with open and closed questions. The written test can be sustained only once, in case of fail or unsatisfacory, the student must take the exam in oral form.
Assessment criteria: The evaluation of the course is expressed in thirtieths and it take particular account to four performance levels:
● Articulation, accuracy and significance of the theoretical content acquired (25%),
● Ability to properly carry out the evaluation procedures proposed (25%),
● The ability to choose a functional approaches and assessment tools (25%),
● Personal elaboration of the contents in the relationship between theory and practice (25%).
Course unit contents: The course is developed in 5 thematic modules closely interconnected:
● the pedagogical foundations and paradigms of educational evaluation,
● the main functions of evaluation in the school context,
● the methodologies and techniques for the evaluation of the skills in students’ learning,
● the evaluation of quality improvement,
● the evaluation as a research tool for professional development.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course will be conducted through lectures made by the teacher in the classroom with the use of slides and different devices (video, documents , illustrative materials ...). There will also be practical exercises carried out in group with individual contribution.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The following texts concerning the program for non-attending students. For attending students the teacher will provide specific instructions during lessons.
