Common characteristics of the Integrated Course unit

Prerequisites: The student is required to have a good knowledge of the Italian language and an ordinary knowledge of contemporary history. The secondary school level of mathematics is required to understand ratios, percentages, proportions etc. Also the familiarity with functional analysis is required. Those who would like to refresh their knowledge in this field can benefit from some introductory lectures.
The course requires some standard competences in comprehension, abstracting and autonomous reasoning of high schools.
Some capacities of autonomous study of the text are required.
In order to get the full benefits of the course, the student should have some standard informatics competences in order to file and connect to the School site and download the studying materials.
Target skills and knowledge: The student is required to develop the suitable competences of comprehension and communication of the issues of the two subjects. Lessical precision in particularly appreciated.
She/he will be competent in developing autonomous and logically correct reasoning on the themes of Political Economy and Public Finances. She/He will be able to develop the analysis of concrete problems by framing them with the models supplied by the course.
The student should be able to frame and solve some simple analytical and calculus problems.

Political Economy: framing a cost-benefit analysis for individuals; calculate elasticities; problems of capitalisation and discount; frame the analysis of micro and macro-economic issues.

Economics of Institutions: analyze economic issues in the context of law. To be able to analyze the economic dimension of contracts. Be able to evaluate the economic consequences of new laws and administrative norms.

The student is required to achieve the knowledge needed to competently study all Law fields presupposing some economic issue.
Examination methods: The examination consists in a test for each discipline. The final evaluation is a weighted average of the results obtained in each of the two tests.
The examination consists in a written test.
The lecturer has the faculty to verify the knowledge of the student by an oral examination in cases of uncertain results.

The test includes open questions, definitions, and a problem.
No multiple choice test will be performed.

The lecturer performs a public correction of the written exams. The student is allowed to discuss or refuse the evaluation before the recording of the mark on uniweb.
Assessment criteria: The student is expected to answer questions with the appropriate terminology and to show analytical and reasoning abilities by using the theoretical instruments presented in the course. She/He is expected to have acquired the meaning of specialistic terms and the role of the fundamental economic and financial institutions. She/He is expected to be able to apply some simple calculation (interest rate, tax imposition...).
The maximum value attributed to each question is reported in the questions' sheet of the written examination. However, minimum requirement to pass the test is given by the terminological precision and the knowledge of the fundamental function of the main economic institutions. The minimal level of sufficiency is determined by a comprehension and discussion capacity relative to the level of economic articles on specialistic newspapers or magazines (e.g. FT). The level of excellence is represented by a comprehension and discussion capacity relative to the level of scientific reviews (even if not using mathematical formalization).

Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The course consists in 48h of frontal lectures on the whole programme. The themes not trated in the lectures are excluded from the programme. A weekly account of the arguments effectively discussed in the lectures, as well as the answer to student's questions is posted in the moodle area in the School's web-site. The slides of the lectures are freely downloadable from the same site. Students are allowed to discuss and pose questions (even by e-mail) to the lecturer.
Two seminar lectures on some specific theme are integrating parts of the programme.
