Prerequisites: No specific previously acquired knowledge or notion, except for those required by the course plan
Target skills and knowledge: Linguistic competence in order to understand contemporary Spanish texts, and ability for critic reading.
Examination methods: Oral exam
Assessment criteria: The evaluation criteria will be coherent with the didactic objetive the course aims to: priority will be given to verifying the ability of developing a linguistic, critic, interpretative reading of the texts.
Course unit contents: The Spanish Civil War in the novel and short story.
Seventy-five year after the conclusion of the Spanish Civil War, the reflectiuon upon the conflict and its memory is most vivid and controvertial. Working on it implies going in depth with the great topic of the pursuit of the understanding of the past at a historiographic, artistic and ethical level. Students are allowed to replace one of the texts read and commented during lessons with a text of their choice among those mentioned during the course.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Information and notions about the topic will be conveyed through lessons held by the professor, who will also take advantage of movies and documentaries. Towards the end of the course, there will take place a specifically dedicated seminar which will feature researchers from different institutions, talking about Civil War-related texts and topics.
Additional notes about suggested reading: The materials will have a literary, journalistic, figurative, audiovisual and musical nature. Both paper or electronic resources will be employed.
