Prerequisites:
|
Good knowledge of the plant morphology. basic knowledge of biochemistry. |
Target skills and knowledge:
|
The course aims to provide the students with a deep knowledge of the functional organization of plants, allowing them to grow, develop and interact with the surrounding environment. |
Examination methods:
|
Written examination. Students will have to answer questions concerning basic processes underlying plant physiology. |
Assessment criteria:
|
Students will be evaluated on the basis of their knowledge of the main principles and mechanisms of plant physiology, as well as their ability to critically revise the acquired information, above all concerning the structure-function interaction. |
Course unit contents:
|
Plant Physiology
-Transport systems in plants: transport mechanisms in plants.
- Root water and mineral transport; Xylem transport mechanism; Control of transpiration by stomata; Phloem transport.
- Photosynthesis.
- Plant nutrition.
How plant respond to endogenous and exogenous signals; plant responses to hormones,
Plant responses to light. |
Planned learning activities and teaching methods:
|
Teachers will give classes by using multimedia supports. In the first classes the teacher will introduce the general content of basic topics. Successively, some subjects will be treated more in detail |
Additional notes about suggested reading:
|
The Teacher will provide books covering topics of plant physiology. |
