Syllabus
Prerequisites: Fundamental of geography (one exam of geography during first level).
Target skills and knowledge: The first aim of the course is to achieve deepen skills in historical-geographical and social-geographical research construction, by means studying and analyzing territory and territoriality.
A second aim is to achieve knowledge about the concepts of distance and proximity, in their different interpretations.
The third aim is enforce critical abilities in analyzing case studies. A focus will interest dynamics of territorial systems by means power relationships.
Examination methods: Oral examination (closed books).
Assessment criteria: Ability to recognize and to correlate the elements of a territorial system.
Ability to demonstrate the development of a process of territorialization and the related dynamics of territoriality, also through examples.
Ability to describe the actor analysis.
Course unit contents: Firstly the course focuses on theoretical-methodological approach in order to carry on historical-geographical and social-geographical researches (analysis of territorial actions, processes of territorial construction, historical evolution of territories, territoriality’s dynamics). This approach will be verified in specific case studies, in a diachronical perspective. Specifically we will analyze the role of proximity.
