Syllabus
Prerequisites: There are no necessary prerequisites.
Target skills and knowledge: The course is aimed at the acquisition and consolidation of a number of linguistic, philological and rhetorical-stylistic skills on Medieval literature (French and Castilian) of the Grail and the motif of the "terre gaste / waste land." It will also examine some examples of recovery and modern reworking of the same themes in the Eight and Twentieth centuries.
Examination methods: The test will consist of an oral examination.
Assessment criteria: Knowledge of content and assimilation of concepts.
Ability to analyse, compare, summarize and critically re-elaborate the acquired knowledge.
Expository style and use of specific language.
Course unit contents: From the "terre gaste" to the "waste land": the Grail legend in Medieval French (and Spanish) and its creative reception in the Eight / Twentieth century.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: The teaching will be based on an eclectic approach to accommodate different learning methodologies. The method of exposition will include lectures, but we will also use other teaching methods to engage students actively in the learning process even by using operational and investigative methods (laboratory, exercises).
Additional notes about suggested reading: The parts that will be handled and that will be carefully explored (texts by Chrétien de Troyes and some Medieval authors, Richard Wagner, Julien Gracq and T.S. Eliot, and critical readings) will be specifically indicated in detail during the lessons.
