Syllabus
Prerequisites: Knowledge of the basics of electric network theory and of fundamental electronic circuits.
Knowledge and understanding of signals theory and of signal representation in the time domain and in the frequency domain
Target skills and knowledge: Primary features and principles of the main instrumentation classes employed in electronics. Measurement methods for testing and characterising electronic devices and systems.
Examination methods: Written and oral test
Assessment criteria: Understanding of course topics, sound knowledge of the characteristics and operating principles of instrumentation classes dealt with in the course, ability to analyse and apply personal judgement in problems relating to measurement of electronic devices and systems. Constructive participation in laboratory activities.
Course unit contents: Fundamentals of measurement
Signal analysis in the time domain: digital oscilloscopes, probes, time-domain reflectometry, measurement on digital links.
Signal analysis in the frequency domain: scanning spectrum analysers, vector signal analysers.
Programmable and distributed measurement systems: realization, software environments, protocols and standards.
Measurement of time-frequency and electrical quantitates.
Radio-frequency measurement.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Classroom lectures (60 hours)
Classroom lectures on laboratory activities (6 hours)
Laboratory (12 hours)
