Syllabus
Prerequisites: Students are required to have passed the examination of Methodology and Social research methods I
Target skills and knowledge: The course will provide an overview of qualitative research.
Students will learn how to produce and analyse qualitative data.
After completing this course, students will have a good command of qualitative research methods.

Examination methods: The final examination for students who participated in the full course is composed by a written and an oral examination.
The written examination for students who participated in the full course requires to answer to 4 open questions on Cardano 2010 (Chapter V excluded) and on Frisina 2013 (in 1h and 30 min.)
The oral examination is only for students who participated in the full course and it requires to discuss the paper produced on their fieldwork.
Students who presented and discussed some articles during the course will have more 1 or 2 points on the final mark, which derives from the average: final written examination's mark and mark on students research experience.
Students who don't attend the course are required to answer to 7 questions (6 open and 1 closed in 2 hours) on the full programme, included the English article.
Course unit contents: The course will start from a definition of qualitative research and from the defence of the reasons that justify its use. Attention will be focused on the research design. In the first part of the course, there will be a review of the principal research methods such as participant observation, discoursive interview and focus groups.
Students will be required to participate in a research process: they will do focus group; group discussion will be transcribed and analysed; they will present results in the classroom.
The second part of the course will be devoted to visual research and there will be seminars with experts.
The course will conclude with a public event where it will be possible to learn how to communicate research results in a creative way in order to reach a wider audience.
