Syllabus
Prerequisites:
Target skills and knowledge:: It is expected that the student will acquire the basic knowledge to frame the phenomenon of tourism in its relations with the various local contexts, shaped by the relationship between society and environment.
Course unit contents: The main geographical concepts (space environment, region, place, landscape) revisited from the perspective of tourism geography
Planned learning activities: 1. Space, the representation of space, tourism space, elements of mapping and cartography for tourism;
2. The environment: elements of physical geography (climate, geosystems), the modifications of the environment, environmental policies, tourism and the environment, the concept of sustainable development and the notion of sustainable tourism;
3. Region: geographic region and tourist region, the region's tourism development models, globalization, the multiscale approach; tourist flows at different scales;
4. The place: the inhabitants and tourists, the mountain inhabited and visited, tourism and proximity recreational activities; case study: Lessinia (VR);
5. The landscape: the landscape-population relationship, the reading of the landscape as a "tool" for tourists; policies for the landscape; tourism and landscape; case study: the Euganean Hills (PD)

Additional notes about suggested reading:: To attending students will be given more precise information during the course concerning the bibliography, which in any case should be supplemented by lecture notes
Teaching methods: In addition to the lectures, some classroom exercises will be included; two day trips for filed work also form an essential part of the course : Lessinia (VR) and the Euganean Hills.
Attendance is strongly recommended
Assessment criteria: Oral exam. There will be the possibility of a written exam at the end of the lectures, for attending students.
