Syllabus
Prerequisites: B1 level (see Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
Target skills and knowledge: - To improve your competence in the four skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking
- To acquire skills specifically related to the study of a foreign language in an academic context
- To develop your language learning strategies
Examination methods: In order to pass the exam, you must receive a passing grade in each of the following tests:
• Modulo frontale (Martina Urbani – first semester)
witten test (50% of total grade).
• General English (Amy Han – first and second semesters):
witten and oral test (50% of total grade). Continuous assessment is an optional alternative to the general English test.
Course unit contents: The course is divided into two parts, A and B.

A. “Modulo frontale” (Martina Urbani – first semester).
This part of the course will focus on the development of writing skills and strategies, with particular emphasis on academic prose. It will involve the study of grammar, lexis and register differences in English. The course will also offer a series of classes on English pronunciation.

B. “General English” (Amy Han– first and second semesters).
This part of the course will focus on the improvement and consolidation of all your language skills (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in English. It will involve the compilation of a weekly online learner diary where you can describe your language learning experiences and monitor your progress through the year.
