Syllabus
Prerequisites:
Target skills and knowledge:: Knowledge of the main authors and texts of Old English and Middle English literature. Reading and analysis of a selection of texts in Old English and Middle English.
Course unit contents: Introduction to Old and Middle English literature, with a selection of representative authors and texts. Arthurian romance in the late Middle Ages. Reading and analysis of a selection of arthurian texts: Stanzaic and Alliterative Morte d’Arthur, Thomas Malory's Morte. The Gawain-Poet: an analysis of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The survival of the arthurian myth in the post-medieval period.
Planned learning activities: 9 ECTS: modules A, B and C.
