Syllabus
Prerequisites:
Target skills and knowledge:: Improved philological method.
Improved ability in analysis of relationships and cultural implications of the textual tradition.
To recognize continuity's and innovation's elements in medieval and Renaissance literary tradition.
Course unit contents: Petrarch and the mediaeval latin Literature.
Planned learning activities: The relationship between Petrarch and the mediaeval latin literature will be valued through the analysis of manuscripts wich contain mediaeval latin works, belonging to Petrarch's library, and the comparison between some mediaeval latin texts, especially french, and Petrarch's works, latin as well as italian.

Additional notes about suggested reading:: Notes of lessons. Further bibliography will be provided during the classes.
Teaching methods: Analysis of reproductions (especially microfilms) of manuscripts containing mediaeval latin texts, belonging to Petrarch. Some mediaeval latin texts will be compared with latin and italian Petrarch's text, with the aim to discover their possible influence upon his works.
Assessment criteria: Transcription of manuscripts.
Oral examination.
