Syllabus
Prerequisites: Course of Operations Research, or equivalent education about:
- Linear, Linear Integer and Linear Mixed Integer Programming, slution at the computer by means of a specific software and manual solution of small dimension models by means of primal and dual symplex algorithm.
- Network flow models, manual solution by means of Ford and Fulkerson algorithm.
Target skills and knowledge: Concept of discrete simulation model, model building and computer coding by means of a specific language, with practical applications. Elementary queueing theory, with manual solution for small dimension models and practical applications. Concept of optimization model, with exact and heuristic solution. Network Programmming models with limited resources, with manual and computer solution and practical application. Location models,with manual solution for small dimension cases and practical application.Routing models, with exact and heuristic solution and practical applications.
Examination methods: Test on discrete simulation model building and computer coding.
Written test: manual exercises about Queueing Theory, Network Programming, Location, Routing.
Optional oral supplementary test about Queueing Theory, Network Programming, Location, Routing.
Assessment criteria: We evaluate the abilities in realizing problems, building related models and developing autonomous projects to obtain clearly readable solutions.
Course unit contents: Discrete simulation models building and coding techniques. Queueing models theory and solution techniques. Network Programming with limited resources models solution techniques. Location models theory and solution techniques. Routing models theory and exact and heuristic solution techniques.
Planned learning activities and teaching methods: Class lectures with theory analysis and exercises developing, where students participation is frequently stimulated. Theoretical study at home and exercises to be independently solved.
