Syllabus
Prerequisites: It could be useful for the student to know the anatomy of the organs involved in the immune response and the structure and biology of the eukaryotic cell.

Required foundation courses: none.
Target skills and knowledge: The course goals are to familiarize the students with basic knowledge about microbial diversity and classification, microbial biology, genetic and structure, and to train them on the laboratory methods used to isolate and identify animal bacterial pathogens.
The course will introduce the students to the defensive mechanisms, the regulation of immune host response against pathogens, the host-microbe interaction, and the treatment and control of animal pathogens.
The course will give to the students the opportunity to know and apply serological diagnostic methods and to learn the good laboratory practice, including lab biosecurity and reliability of results and their interpretation.
Examination methods: Oral examination at the end of the course or 2 partial written tests with multiple-choice and short-answer questions, during the course.
Assessment criteria: The student will be evaluated on relation to the knowledge acquired.
