Syllabus
Prerequisites: The exam of International Law is a necessary prerequisite for this programme, as are basic notions of EU Law.
Target skills and knowledge:: The course aims at describing and analysing the international legal regime on trade of goods among States, in view of improving the ability of students to manage legal texts and cases on this matter. Consequently, reference is not made to transnational relationships among private subjects since such relationships are governed by the private international law.
Initially, the analysis shall mainly focus on the development of these rules starting from the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT, 1947) to the establishment of the World Trade Organization (WTO, 1994).
Secondly and further in detail, the programme will examine and evaluate the obligations resulting from the above mentioned legal system. Under this section, special attention shall be paid to the rules and procedures regarding the settlement of disputes and related economic sanctions.
