Syllabus: COMMUNITY PSYCHOLOGY (MOD. A)
Prerequisites:
Target skills and knowledge:: - Learning of the discipline, its principles and methods of intervention in the community;
- Understanding and learning of the prevention and promotion approach;
- Acquisition of an ecological approach in analyzing psychological, social and health problems.
Course unit contents: The course has the main aim to teach Community Psychology principles, the prevention and promotion approach and the ecological model in dealing with psychological, social and health problems. Moreover, the main methods of community intervention will be presented.
Planned learning activities: - Definition of the discipline and profession of Community Psychologist
- Values in Community Psycology
- History of the discipline
- The ecological model and its multiple levels of intervention
- Prevention and promotion of well-being
- Socio-economic inequalities and well-being in different societies
- Social capital, civic development and civic participation in adolescence
- Empowerment
- Working with the community: the participatory action research
- Examples of community intervention: the Mentoring project
- Examples of community intervention: Peer education
- Other community interventions

Target skills and knowledge:: Required basic concepts of Philosophy, History, Psychology and Education


Acquisition of basic concepts of Cultural Anthropology, in its theoretical and methodological aspects. Acknowledgement of historical processes of contemporary world. Acknowledgement of the interpretative an distributive dimension of culture in the global context. Consideration of the complexity and variability of meanings and values. Improvement of relational skills in intercultural contests.
Course unit contents: Universality and difference. The concept of culture and the analysis of cultural processes. Anthropological criticism to ethnocentrism and racism. Post-colonial anthropology, from Lèvi-Strauss to James Clifford. Ethnicity and multiculturalism. History of migrations. Diaspora and integration. Ethnicity and globalisation. Anthropological criticism on identity. Mediation on meanings and values.
Anthropology of Education. Rites of passage . Anthropology of violence. Ethnographical Method.
